About the name
Leigh Norman Brasington

Leigh: (lee) A surname. At least this is what is usually given. But I think it is not only a surname, but that surname is derived via an earlier corruption of the Scandanavian name "Leif" (lafe). The "gh" can represent the "f" sound (just like "ph" can) in words like "enough". So "Leif" might have been spelled "Leigh" early on and then the pronunciation evolved into "Lee". Just a theory, but certainly more interesting than "A surname".

Norman: (nor-mun) A Norseman. Or perhaps a person from Normandy, which is where William the Conqueror came from. Of course, Normandy got its name from Norse settlers.

Brasington: (braise-zing-ton) The spelling of Brasington is a corruption of Brassington, a village in the Midlands of England near Notthingham. This is where my direct line comes from I assume. Somewhere along the line (probably US Immigrations) one of the s's got dropped and the pronunciation changed. So all the people who spell it with one s, pronounce it my way and are all related to me as 8th cousin or closer.

Brasington: (braise-zing-ton), both a spelling and pronunciation corruption of Brassington, a village in Derbyshire, England. Brassington is "Brand's-Steig-Tune" meaning "Brand's Farm Town". It's a Viking name. Dem Vikings made it all the way to California after some generations.
