One way to jumpstart racial equity work is to review the basic concepts of race and ethnicity, racism, white privilege, and internalized oppression. Groups that move forward without reviewing these concepts often find themselves stuck later in their work - when they realize people were working from different assumptions about these concepts. To create effective strategies which will make progress on addressing racial inequities or improve race relations it helps to understand how racism works, how privilege is embedded in our systems, and how internalized oppression is maintained.
This section includes just a small subset of the excellent materials available, chosen because they have been found to be useful by many groups doing this work and/or they are particularly clear. As is true for every part of this website, we will continue to update these resources. We welcome feedback and recommendations for additional material.
