Hate Crimes

While the main purpose of this web site is to provide resources dealing with the systematic and institutional causes of racial inequity, it would be a mistake not also to share information about extreme incidents of personal prejudice, bigotry and hate. The number of hate crimes is an indicator of our culture: what we consider intolerable behavior, how we share that message with others, and the ways we respond or act preventatively so that kind of behavior is not repeated. Typically, crime and/or violence holds our attention for a media minute, with the assumption that these incidents are rare and not commonplace, yet they still are.
